May 25th – 26th 2017

With the support of the German Government BIEE Program  in the Caribbean & Capacity building workshop on energy efficiency Indicators was launched in Kingston.

• For over three decades, ECLAC is one of the main strategic partners of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) in Latin America and the Caribbean to position emerging and innovative issues on the agenda of public policy making  and to address the challenges of the region towards a sustainable development.

•Together we work through a cooperation program to accompany countries in the region in the design of instruments to implement structural reforms, including economic, social and environmental aspects. One of the subjects we have jointly been working on in the last years is renewable energy and energy efficiency.

•Our current cooperation program focuses on the support to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including the SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy”.

•We are pleased that ECLAC, through the German cooperation program, has been able to coordinate the Program of Energy Efficiency Indicators Database (BIEE) for the region since 2011 as a way to overcome this shortcoming and so far, 19 countries participate in this initiative.

•The BIEE Program is now extended the non-Hispanic Caribbean countries.
